Like any milestone worth celebrating, the Xara 40th Anniversary has an amazing origin story. To celebrate it we want to share our story with you.

1981
Charles Moir — The company was founded by Charles Moir, and started by developing for various 8-bit systems, such as the Acorn Atom and BBC Micro
1982
Wordwise — One of the very first word processors, and the most successful in terms of units sold
1984
Gaddesden Place — Xara development has taken place at Gaddesden Place since 1984
1992
ArtWorks — Vector graphics for the Acorn Archimedes and a direct ancestor of Xara Designer
1994
Impression — The best selling Acorn application program, a big hit with press and end users alike
1994
XARA.COM — Started to use the name ‘Xara’ (chosen after a girl named Zara!) for the first Windows titles, instead of the previous ‘Computer Concepts’ brand
1994
Xara Studio — Combined features of ArtWorks and Impression, the first app for Windows
1995
CorelXARA — A marketing deal with Corel sees Xara Studio released as CorelXARA
1997
XARA 3D — 3D text & animations released, another massive hit
2000
XARA X — A huge post-Corel release, including brush strokes, feathering, support for pressure- sensitive graphics tablets, Flash export and at least 3 all-new tools

Xara Xtreme — Brought a new and important feature to its user’s toolbox: PDF export
2009
MAGIX — Sale to Magix. Xara titles begin to appear in many different languages & channels under both the MAGIX and Xara brands.

Xara Designer Pro — Xara Designer Pro includes all the features and templates of Web Designer Premium, Photo & Graphic Designer and Page & Layout Designer in a fully integrated single package solution

Xara Online Designer beta — The first beta versions of Xara Cloud, our online service that allows you to create and edit a wide range of business documents
