What is REIN MLS?
Real Estate Information Network, Inc.® (REIN) is the independent MLS for Hampton Roads, Virginia — a broker-owned Multiple Listing Service whose story began on November 21, 1969, when a small group of 16 real estate brokers came together with a vision to form their own listing service. By December 1, 1969, Metro MLS had leased its first office on Virginia Beach Boulevard. From those 16 founding broker-stockholders, REIN has grown over more than five decades into Hampton Roads’ definitive real estate data platform — now representing more than 670 broker firms across 820+ offices and serving over 10,000 real estate professionals across Southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.
In 1997, Metro MLS, Inc. merged with the Virginia Peninsula Association of REALTORS® MLS — bringing together the databases serving Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and surrounding areas with those serving Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and the York and James City County peninsula communities — and the Real Estate Information Network, Inc. was formally established. Today, REIN’s service area extends from Williamsburg east to Virginia Beach and south across the North Carolina border, making it the most accurate and comprehensive source of real estate data in the Hampton Roads region. A landmark October 2024 data-sharing agreement with CVR MLS (Central Virginia Regional MLS) further connected Hampton Roads to the Richmond metro area, creating a unified Virginia listing pool serving a combined population of over 3.1 million people and approximately 16,000 members. REIN is governed exclusively by its broker-stockholder members — not by a third-party association — ensuring the MLS stays in step with the needs of the professionals who use it every day.

Eligibility: Licensed Virginia or North Carolina real estate brokers, agents, and appraisers operating in the Hampton Roads region can join REIN MLS. Because REIN is a broker-owned and broker-governed MLS — not association-owned — membership is open to qualifying brokers regardless of REALTOR® association affiliation. Brokers may apply as Stockholder firms (equity-holding broker members) or Participants (non-equity broker subscribers). Affiliated sales associates join under their managing broker’s REIN membership.

Complete a membership application through reinmls.com or contact your nearest REIN office to begin the process. Applications are reviewed by REIN’s Board of Directors, which is composed entirely of broker-stockholder members. Appraisers and administrative personnel also have dedicated application tracks. - 2Approval
Once approved, you will receive access to the REIN MLS Matrix platform, GoMLS mobile app, Realist Tax records, Data Co-op, Instanet Solutions (InstanetForms, Authentisign, TransactionDesk), Domus Analytics, and REIN’s full library of sales contracts, addendums, and forms. CVR MLS Richmond-area listings are accessible within Matrix upon approval. Monthly training and support classes are available through the REIN member portal. Administrative personnel must complete an Administrative Orientation course. You can then immediately begin integrating with Xara Cloud. - 3Connect with Xara
