FrontPage 2003

Problem using some Webstyle 4 page templates

With some of the Webstyle 4 web page templates you may see some page layout problems introduced if you edit the page using Microsoft FrontPage 2003. Details of the problem are described below, but the good news is that there is a simple workaround.

This issue has been reported to Microsoft, but by letting Microsoft know that you have encountered the problem you will be improving the chances of a fix being included in an update to FrontPage 2003 soon.

Workaround
Before opening the pages in FrontPage:-
  1. Select Page Options under the Tools menu in Frontpage 2003
  2. Select the Code Formatting tab and increase the Right Margin value to 1000
  3. Click OK to confirm the new setting
Once you’ve done this you should be able to edit your Webstyle 4 pages with FrontPage 2003 without introducing layout problems. If you ever see the layout problems happening again, check that your Right Margin setting is still as described above.

Example
Before loading into FrontPage 2003
After loading into FrontPage 2003

View the 'before' page in Internet Explorer and you’ll see that the 2 images appear with no vertical space separating them. This is the way the page should be displayed. But open before.htm in FrontPage 2003 and upon loading, newlines are introduced following the <IMG> tags. Saving the page and viewing in Internet Explorer shows there is now vertical space between the 2 images (see 'after' page above).
